I am so glad I found Northstarr for my project and would recommend them to anyone. I had a very bad experience with another contractor and the experience with Northstarr helped restore my faith in the profession/industry. Marty met with me personally to get the quote going and seeing how to move forward with the project; and was very open to all my questions and making sure we mitigated surprises on the quote end. All the crew members that came on site were wonderful, and I appreciated that Dennis and Richard kept me in the loop and were very open to my questions/changes along the way. The workmanship is fantastic, and Dennis had some great suggestions on touches to the project that really helped enhance the final look. During the project, there was going to be a time when a large patio door needed to be moved, and I was concerned about my cats getting outside. Northstarr was very understanding and was able to structure the work such that the door was able to be moved without ever giving the cats access to getting outside. Everyone I worked with throughout the process was kind, helpful, respectful, and really walked what they talked. I also liked that the crews were very friendly and I was able to have some great conversations with many great people. Again, would recommend them to anyone and honestly one of the best experience I've had with a contractor in my many years of home ownership.

Very happy with NorthStarr. They were quick to reply to my request for a quote. Once I accepted the quote they let me know about how long it would take to get started. They let me know the job would take 2 weeks, it ended up being three weeks but not a big deal, that is expected. All of the trades men who worked on our project were respectful of our home. They always showed up when they said they would and would let me know if there were any delays. All of the employees were great and we appreciated the work that Joe and Tyler did on our project. I would not hesitate to recommend them or hire them again.

I first contacted Northstarr Builders to find out pricing and information on getting a wood stove installed. I had so many questions about all the options out there and I needed some steering in the right direction. Marty and his team worked to get me the answers and show me all the different ways that what I needed could be accomplished. They worked with me to find out what I required and what I didn&#39;t. I live in a small home so space was my biggest requirement! They figured it all out for us and drew up a plan. They ended up building off the back of the house to extend it out so the wood stove insert would fit into the wall and save us our space! Their quality and workmanship speaks for itself! We have a beautiful wood stove now with some wonderful tile work that accents the house nicely! Northstarr tore down my old carport and built a new structure in its place. They did a fabulous job and took extra care to match the siding and shingles to my house and outbuildings. The crew was courteous and hard working and they showed up everyday except for the two days we were waiting for the engineered trusses to arrive, which I was informed of ahead of time. I plan to have Northstarr Builders back for several other projects.and would highly recommend them to anyone interested in quality work for a fair price.

Hired NorthStarr Builders LLC to refinish a deck that was built in 1977. NorthStarr Owner, Marty Johnson helped us think through whether to replace with a composite material, or sand and refinish existing deck. Ultimately, he recommended replacement of existing surface with a newly introduced product - a cedar-toned treated yellow pine that looks beautiful and fit best within our budget. NorthStarr also stripped and refinished a bench/trellis section of the existing deck to match the new deck material. I appreciated that Marty was a very responsive communicator all through the project and worked with us to address some glitches that inevitably come with a large project like this. In my estimation, the measure of a good company not only regards their workmanship, quality and responsive communications but how they resolve issues. On all such scores, I give Northstarr Builders high marks and recommend Marty and his great team with enthusiasm.

Martys crew built a custom carport on the front of our house and matched it exactly to the existing structure, you would not know it was an addition. Marty did everything he said he would do and we could not be happier. When we were not happy with one small trim piece he redid the whole thing. We also added new shingles to our pole barn as well as house. His crew was great. The carport changed the whole appearance of the house and for that we are thankful. We will definitely call Northstarr for our next project!

Marty and his crew are lifesavers. I cannot express enough how happy I am that I chose to work with Marty and his crew. I hired them to do an entire house remodel after another contractor said it was too much of a project and walked off the job. I think the best part of working with North Star was the communication I was able to have with his foreman Charlie and crew who were on the job the entire almost 5-month process. I was able to call Charlie multiple time in a day to ask questions or get updates, and he was always professional and personable. Charlie never sounded annoyed at having to hear from me, even a couple of times on the weekend when something would pop in my head Charlie made himself available, which he did not have to do. Marty would check in almost every week to make sure I was happy with things, and to make sure everyone was on the same page with the progress. Charlie went above and beyond for my wife and I, at one point he noticed that because of how our home was built he would be able to vault our ceiling on the kitchen for not much extra money. He immediately informed us of this and gave us our options. I am so thankful for this because it is hands down the best thing we did, not only did Marty have the best price I was quoted, but he had a good start date which they stuck to and they would have finished on his projected finish date if I had not thrown a bunch of changes and add-ons at them. Our house was an old cabin from the 40s on a lake, and had many homeowner renovations done so things were a bit of a mess. After our previous contractor quit during demolition, my wife and I did not know if we were going to be able to find someone who would take on the large task. Marty and Charlie came into our house with a great attitude and solutions to the problems we were having. The project basically tore our house down to the studs, removed and rebuilt our entire ceiling and rebuilt and releveled our entire subfloor. Marty had a full crew to our house every day, we even had a neighbor or two comments on how hard the guys were working while we were not there. Our house was full of problem and obstacles but every time we ran into one Charlie had more than one way to overcome them, and they never hounded us for more money to solve problems. They just would just fix them. After the cluster of structural issues was solved Charlie crew worked with me hand in hand to make sure the new electrical went in the way I wanted, they verified every switch and outlet placement and every plumbing and fixture. They never seemed annoyed or upset if I did not like something and wanted it changed, they always took responsibility for a mistake, which I have a hard time remembering any specific ones, I could write pages about specific times that I was impressed but it really came down to the fact the I trusted in Charlie and Marty to deliver on what the promised, and they did in a big way. To add to the point of how awesome Marty and Charlie were to us, my wife made all the design decisions for our house, and she was worried things would look not as we had in our head, but Charlie assured us things would be great, once everything was done Marty made a comment that is our house should be in a figging magazine this made my wife cry, that a professional went out of his way to say a nice thing even after he was paid and did not have any reason to. I strongly recommend Marty for anything you need.

I hired Northstarr Builders after talking to a dozen different builders about two additions on the house. The first, doubling the existing garage, was fairly straightforward. The second, constructing a sunroom that would also function as a breezeway between the house and garage was more complex. Most of the builders I talked to either could not figure out how to make it happen, quoted me ridiculously high prices, or wanted to speak to my husband (rather than to me, who drew the basic designs to submit to the city, pulled the permits, and was paying for the addition). Marty at Northstarr was not only confident that they would be able to complete my custom sunroom but he conversed with me in a respectful manner and was very straightforward when discussing the cost-breakdown of all labor and materials. It has now been 6 months since the build was completed and we are very happy with both our additions. They were able to connect the house and garage (which did not sit parallel to each other, or have the same roof pitch or level) with a unique 6-sided room that we get many compliments on and the extra garage space has been very useful! Would definitely recommend them, especially for projects where you have to think outside the box.
